Addressing Water Scarcity & Privatization Amid Drought

As we experience unprecedented drought conditions in the northeastern United States disproportionately, we must reflect on the complex relationship between water scarcity, the privatization of water resources, and the continued funding of fossil fuel infrastructure. Waterspirit’s team works to educate communities about the sacredness of water and the interconnectedness of all life. Water is a vital resource that must remain accessible to all, regardless of income or geography.

We push for policies that protect water from privatization, ensuring it remains a public good. When water resources are controlled by private entities, those who rely on private wells, particularly in rural and under-resourced areas, are at risk. This is especially concerning during times of drought, when groundwater levels fall, leaving residents and businesses with less access to this critical resource.

We continue to advocate for renewable energy solutions that are not only climate-friendly but also water-conscious. Fossil fuel extraction, with its significant water consumption and pollution, exacerbates water scarcity. Transitioning to proven clean renewable energy is essential for protecting both the climate and sacred water supplies.

In light of the current drought, we are sharing a few valuable resources to help you stay informed:

Rain is expected in the coming days and we encourage everyone to practice water conservation.
