Waterspirit's Book Club Nov 25

Join Waterspirit’s Book Club for our Nov 25 meeting as we discuss the book The Great Work by Thomas Berry.

During this meeting, our group will discuss The Great Work by Thomas Berry. In this book Thomas Berry shares a culmination of his ideas and calls us to experience creation as a source of wonder and delight rather than a commodity for our personal use. Berry's message is not one of doom but of hope. He reminds society of its function, particularly the universities and other educational institutions whose role is to guide students into an appreciation rather than an exploitation of the world around them. Berry is the leading spokesperson for the Earth, and his profound ecological insight illuminates the path we need to take in the realms of ethics, politics, economics, and education if both we and the planet are to survive.

“…everything has a right to be recognized and revered. Trees have tree rights, insects have insect rights, rivers have river rights, and mountains have mountain rights.” (Thomas Berry, “The Great Work,” in The Great Work, 5).
