In this presentation Susan discuss what it means to "live sustainably" in our modern society. We explore the relevant questions of how to meet the needs of 7.5 billion people inhabiting the Earth while striving to sustain our planet for future generations. This workshop looks at various human impacts on the planet from resource materials and energy needs to waste generation. We investigate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the achievements being made in the 17 areas. We also discuss the terms, “zero waste” and “circular economy” and how they can be realized.

About Susan: Susan Golden’s mission is to help people understand how we interact with our shared home, the Earth. To that end, she works with several nonprofit conservation organizations, speaks to regional community groups about current environmental issues, and tutors local teenagers in several STEM subjects. Susan has met with thousands of people in the Northeast region, and continues to reach all types of groups with her talks — and her efforts extend beyond speaking. She has dedicated hundreds of hours to community service in various capacities including community cleanups and curriculum development for educational programs. Currently, she serves on the boards of the Hackensack Riverkeeper and the Tenafly Nature Center and she is a past chairperson of her local environmental commission.
Susan continues to study our environment by attending conferences and classes as well as through independent research. She attended a training session led by the Climate Reality Project in Denver in 2017 and she is now a mentor and a co-chair of her local chapter. In 2019, she completed the Rutgers Environmental Stewards Certification Program, and in 2020 she became an En-ROADS Ambassador for Climate Interactive.
